This weeping Hemlock was becoming buried under the other shrubs within this bed and some separation was needed. I first opened up the Bottlebrush Buckeye hovering over the hemlock and gave it the air and added sunlight it needed. Heavy shade leads to plant death, so opening this side was critical for the survival of this species. Thinning cuts were made to open the hemlock from the bottom up and keep the desired shapes/wings. Looking from the driveway, it appears a bit more open, but doesn’t appear really different. The after shot from the mulch indicates just how much was cut out. Time lapse video to show process.
